The BMDC Honey Buying Center was established in 2017 as part of the Belize Marketing and Development Corporation’s responsible action to develop and promote high quality local products. The Packaging facility is registered through the Belize Agriculture Health Authority, and follows the standards for the production of quality and safe food products.
Small beekeepers from northern Belize (Corozal, Orange Walk and Belize District) are now able to focus on keeping their hives healthy and productive. They then deliver the collected honey to the buying center. Once at the Center, the honey is filtered and stored. Honey is then packed and packaged into several presentations following Good Manufacturing Practices, sanitary guidelines and packaging standards; thereby delivering a high quality, safe and attractive product to the market under the brand Belize Jewels. Belize Jewels is the brand that represents quality and responsible business management.
The BMDC Honey packaging operations directly and positively impact the lives of the beekeepers and their families, as it reduces the effort required in marketing and allows them to generate their income in a single payment within a shorter period of time. The farmers are able to sell the bulk of their production to the facility and thereafter are able to enjoy the fruits of their labor, investing their profits in what they need it the most and also being able to save a portion and invest in the maintenance and expansion of their apiaries.
Being a socially responsible company the BMDC ensures that the beekeepers are paid a fair price for their product and that the natural environment is protected through sustainable use of its resources.
When you buy a Belize Jewels Honey, you contribute to the well being and sustainable development of local Beekeepers and their families!!!
